I’m inspired by learning
Formally, I hold a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Ottawa Trilingual Translation; a Bachelor of Education (French/Spanish) from the University of Toronto; a Master of Education (Applied Linguistics) from the Universidad de Jaen; and, a Master of Arts Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.
I maintain a good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario; Ontario College of Teachers; Ontario Society of Registered Psychotherapists; and, Canadian Fitness Professionals (CanFitPro).
I’m also inspired by the evidenced-based research below. Not one modality fits everyone, but I’m currently finding the following modalities very useful and enjoy offering them to clients as tools to help navigate complexities:
ACT, CBT & DBT
Brainspotting (phase one)
understanding attachment
radical acceptance and compassion
cultural/diversity counselling
Gottman approach
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Somatic work
Even though I love formal learning, informally, I am constantly inspired by the following:
laughter and the genuine relationships I cultivate with my friends;
my garden and yard work;
movement;
music;
food;
quiet moments;
being in or on water;
lots of reading and writing;
and, weekends away.
Some quotes that I find inspiring and want to share:
“All happiness depends on courage and work.”
— Honoré de Balzac
“El valiente no es el que no siente miedo, sino el que a pesar de tenerlo actúa.”
— Anonimo
“The Latina in me is an ember that blazes forever.”
— Sonia Sotomayor
“Le vrai courage est parfois celui de choisir.’
— Anonyme
“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are forced to change ourselves.”
— Viktor Frankl
“Communiquer suppose aussi le silence, non pour se taire, mais pour laisser un espace à la rencontre des mots.”
— Jacques Salomé
“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again.”
— Eric Roth, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Screenplay
